Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) and UN Messenger of Peace; World-renowned ethologist and activist.

Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE was a world-renowned ethologist and activist who inspired greater understanding and action on behalf of the natural world. She died at the age of 91 of natural causes in 2025.

Dr. Goodall was known for her groundbreaking studies of wild chimpanzees in Gombe, Tanzania, which forever changed our understanding of our relationship to the rest of the animal kingdom. This transformative research continues today more than 65 years later as the longest running wild chimpanzee study in the world. Jane’s work built on scientific innovations, growing a lifetime of advocacy through her international organization the Jane Goodall Institute with Chapters in 26 countries. The Institute’s programmes include community-led conservation (Tacare), conservation science, two sanctuaries for orphan chimpanzees and ChimpanZoo. Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots empowers young people of all ages to become involved in hands-on projects of their choosing to benefit the community, animals and the environment and is now active in more than 75 countries.

Through her last days, Jane travelled the world 300 days a year giving lectures and reminding us that our daily actions make an difference and its up to us the kind of difference we make. Author of
many books for adults and children, her last books include The Book of Hope and Pangolina.
