Dr. Izzy Hirji

Education Lead

Dr. Izzy Hirji is a wildlife veterinarian and conservationist dedicated to protecting endangered species and the wild places they call home. He graduated in 2014 from the University of Guelph with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a BSc. in Zoology. He has a background in both domestic and wildlife medicine, pathology and conservation, and works with many sanctuaries, wildlife rescue centres and conservation initiatives both in Canada and abroad. He is also an instructor for Loop Abroad, taking students on experiential education experiences around the world to learn about domestic and wild animal medicine, welfare and conservation.

Dr. Izzy was featured on the 2020 Nat Geo Wild series "Jungle Animal Rescue" and on the 2017 Nat Geo Wild documentary "Chimp School". He is extremely passionate about environmental conservation and One Health and has been working with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Goldberg lab on investigating a novel chimpanzee disease since 2016.

Dr. Izzy's goal is to blend science, education, art and advocacy to inspire others to care deeply for the natural world - and to believe in the power of everyday choices to create lasting change.
