Mission
To build, invest, and manage an endowment to support programmes of the Jane Goodall Institute, fueling conservation, research, and educational programs within the Jane Goodall community.
Summary of org’s work
The Jane Goodall Legacy Foundation (JGLF) was established by Dr. Jane Goodall in 2017 to ensure her life’s work in conservation, research, and education continues for generations to come. Through a dedicated endowment, JGLF funds and supports key programs of the Jane Goodall Institute, including Roots & Shoots, empowering young people to protect people, animals, and the environment. The Foundation is guided by the Council for Hope, a global network of influential leaders across science, conservation, business, and the arts, all committed to advancing Jane’s enduring mission. As Dr. Goodall states, the Foundation exists so that “the fight to make a better world… may carry on beyond my lifetime.”
Hussain Aga Khan serves on the foundation’s Council for Hope.
Location of work
JGLF is a sister organisation to the Jane Goodall Institute which operates globally to advance conservation, community empowerment, and youth leadership. Its work spans nearly 100 countries, where it protects 3.4 million acres of habitat, cares for over 290 chimpanzees and gorillas, and supports 130 engaged communities through programs that integrate environmental and human well-being. Efforts include restoring habitat, educating girls, mentoring youth, and supporting local livelihoods in harmony with nature. Through its Roots & Shoots program, more than 5,800 youth-led projects have been launched worldwide, helping grow the next generation of conservation leaders.
